Sanitization of history?

What do you think of this? I see examples of this from time to time. Personally it irritates me. One example comes to mind. Sometimes I build model airplanes (yea, I’m a geek-it’s peaceful though). I notice the kits no longer include the swastika for the Nazi aircraft. That makes this hisotical representation innacurate. I also notice this with the Confederate battle flag sometimes. I just feel that history should be represented as it was, for better or worse. I believe that if something was “bad” or inappropriate we should know how to recognize it, not erase it from our memories for the sole purpose of not offending. I realize I interjected my opinion and may have loaded my question. I’m just curious to read what people think about this subject. What is your opinion?

I think that some people want the History of man to be a happy period. I think that you are right in the matter, but if we were to accept your concept than we would have to explain the reasoning so not to offend any one.
